Hi, I would love to continue collecting more of Gary Meyer’s story, to compile and share them. If you know him, please do share your memories in the comment section down below.

Here is a documentary I did in 2019 of Gary Meyer. He was a very sweet, loving, humorous, and passionate teacher. He didn’t really teach me in class, but I have learned so much in the short time I got to spend with him. I remember seeing him first in his blue suspender top and asked a person working at art center, who is that old guy walking with a walker, he has such a sweet vibe. and so I went up to his class and took the bravery to ask this man who was once a stranger to me, “Hi, this may be odd, but I find you very interesting and I wonder if I could do a documentary on you, as I am trying to photograph people who are 80+ that are still active and high spirited.” after some convincing, he let me into his world. I hope you all enjoy this little video. and please share the stories you’ve had with him here! I would really love to hear more of him from you all

Gary in his class

and in all honesty, just to share… this is the second person whom I photograph and passes. it is hard doing a documentary project on seniors, especially when you end up carrying for them in your heart. it is somehow harder to mourn for them than to mourn for my aunt’s passing. if you’d like to see my other series on seniors please let me know and share some love. i do need the encouragement to make it happen. i am looking to make a book right now to show some of their everyday life stories, hope it’ll happen. and yes if you know any publishing company or anyone who might be interested in it, please message me.

now, live your day and cherish your loved ones!

OVERCOMING HARD TIMES

DSC_1296.jpg

This term I took more classes than I could actually handle, so being stressed was inevitable. Regardless of how many times I feel like giving up, people around me continue to support me. Now, I know my limits after pushing it and testing it, and this term taught me compassion, patience and endurance.

Like the light of the sirens that functions as an alert, this experience have made me more sensitive and aware of how people feel during hardships or when people have emotional overload. I cherish this journey and I look forward to share more of it.

Getting to know IT's origin

Since young I've always heard the sound of bike horn and other sounds completing the afternoon vibe of my neighborhood. I never wondered or questioned where does all this snacks or food come from? This holiday I got to visit a station for penjual roti keliling (bread seller). To my surprise, the place was very dark and dirty. The worker cut the loaf of bread manually with an odd shape knife that has been sharpened too many times. With the use of stapler or fire, they seal the plastic that holds the bread that they just prepared. And of course, all of this was done without washing his hands first. I do not blame him for the condition, since the bread itself comes at a very cheap price, it is only Rp 8000 in Indonesia's currency (around US $0.60). I'm sure if we value their work more, then they'll be able to work in a better condition and hygiene.

I Record Pictures

I record image which often teach me more than what i thought i knew about when i first press the shutter.

There are times when I feel like I'm just hanging by the tree and being close to what is perceive as normal by the mass. For an artist, often what is harder to accept is when people tell me that I'm like a "hipster." :( I'm just me... I'm not trying…

There are times when I feel like I'm just hanging by the tree and being close to what is perceive as normal by the mass. For an artist, often what is harder to accept is when people tell me that I'm like a "hipster." :( I'm just me... I'm not trying to be anything else but myself. Maybe I will never fully take in the title of being a photographer, and much rather prefer being considered a person who love taking picture. Then I'm not bound to only creating pictures, but other things as well...

I used to hesitate on sharing my image... but then again why shall I? I only hope that what I gain while capturing or pondering upon the view can be of pleasure to others as well. And if you don't like it, then it'll just be a pass by image in your life, and its ok... :)

Go out and see the magic :)

I'm glad I went out today. All my mood swing were carried away by the wonderful fire of the sunset. The ray of sunset was so beautiful that it made the clouds looked like it was on fire. Hope you enjoy my little snapshot as how I enjoyed the wonderful glimpse of God's work.

p.s. no trees were harm in the making of this image

It is good to LISTEN

I'm just a child wanting to learn and absorb everything around me. I realize that many people that have 'made it' encounter a lot of their fear as well. I heard a talk in Art Center today and was able to learn a lot about being confident and just doing the job. Don't be afraid to satisfy the subject that you shoot, but shoot for yourself, be weird, have fun, and most importantly do not be afraid to ASK...

ThankS Christ BUCK for being a good story teller of your journey.

Hope you enjoy my sketch as much as I enjoyed your talk...

It wasn't a dream after all...

It was a dreamy trip to begin with... A glance to its beauty of adventure that lasted only for couple weeks. A trip to New York and Boston, yes I finally stepped my feet on the east coast.
